Regis College & St. Michael’s College

A New Vision for Catholic Theological Education

On October 20th, 2021, both the Regis Governing Council and USMC Collegium approved a Memorandum of Agreement that creates a federation for the purpose of ā€œforging a world-class centre of excellence in Catholic theological study, whose mission is to promote teaching, research and formation to serve the needs of the Church and society, in Canada and globallyā€ (Regis-USMC MOA).

The federation creates a single combined academic and administrative unit, reflect-ing both the Jesuit/Ignatian and Basilian charisms.

A harmonized centre heightens the ability of the Regis-St. Mikeā€™s venture to address critical issues of the day, whether climate change or reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, while continuing to offer the foundational and advanced courses essential to theological study and to prepare women and men for ministry or academic careers.

Responsibility for the implementation of the Agreement will rest with an Oversight Committee composed of the presidents and board chairs of both institutions.

Informed by consultations with faculty, administration, and students, the inaugural academic program under the federation will be implemented for the 2022-2023 academic year.

The appointment of a single Dean of Regis St. Michaelā€™s is anticipated for July 1, 2022. Each institution will continue to have its own board of governors, presidents, and chancellors.
